Welcome to the web site of Cockenzie and Port Seton Amateur Radio Club.

We are a very active club based in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, entering contests, undertaking training, holding talks and events throughout the year.
Members are encouraged to add their own contest reports, articles, equipment reviews, onto the forums, news items, events for the calendar, photos can be uploaded seperately - all are welcome.

If you would like to meet us in person, our club nights are on the first Friday of every month (except January when it's the second Friday) in the lounge of the Thorntree Inn in Cockenzie.
Check out our calendar for other events.

Members of the club can also usually be found in the Thorntree most Tuesday evenings.

 Club HF Sked

Members of the club are experimenting with a sked on HF to increase activity and encourage members to get on the air more.

The first sked took place on Thursday 14 August at 20:00 local time and ended up on 80m at 3765.3KHz.

Everyone is most welcome to join us on the sked, the band / frequency may move about until we can settle on a location that suits the most people.

80m was ok for most people on the first sked but QRM and noise made it difficult for some.

Look out for us on Thursdays at 20:00.

International Lighthouse Weekend 15/16th August GB2LBN

The  International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend came into being from the
Scottish Northern Lighthouses award weekend .

See also the Ayr Group web site for further history and here for the original ILLW web site and 1999 list by Bob Dixon, GM3ZDH.

Over the past 10 years it has grown to over 380 lighthouses in some 51 countries around the world participating in the event.
The event is always held on the 3rd full weekend in August starting at 0001 UTC on Saturday and finishing at 2359 UTC on Sunday. It also now coincides on the Sunday with the International Lighthouse Day which is an event organised by the International Association of Lighthouse Keepers whereby as many world lighthouses will be open to the public for the day.

CPSARC will be active from Barns Ness Lighthouse over the weekend, everyone is most welcome to come down and help operating.

 Alpha Project success!

Thanks to all the very generous donations from club members and proceeds from the stall at the Junk Sale, we have now reached our target and are able to purchase our second Alpha 91b HF amplifier for the club.

We will have some money left over which will be placed in the Tiree account for next year and used to help pay for any equipment the GM2T team wish to add to the Club's Contest / Special Event stations.

(Excess funds from the Tiree expeditions over the last 10 years have been used to fund the purchase of two complete contest grade stations featuring Yaesu FT1000MPs (with additional filters), Alpha 91b amplifiers, Dunestar bandpass filters and antenna switches along with various antennas and rotators and a mobile tower)

Additional donations to the Tiree fund are always welcome, just email for bank transfer details. Paypal can be used but bear in mind they charge a 3.5% fee.

All the (non-anonymous) contributors to the Alpha Project will be thanked in the September newsletter.

JUNK NIGHT -- OUTCOME and THANKS

Hi All,

Our Junk Night was once again a resounding success with 135 people via the door. We raised on the evening a total of £616.20 and along with what we had raised prior to Junk Night we have donated a grand total of £915 this year to our adopted charity, the British Heart Foundation. It brings our fifteen year total to £14,368. which I think is marvelous for our club. Everyone some where has been touched in their lives with someone who has died or suffers from heart problems and if our small amount goes some of the way to help diagnosing and curing one of the biggest killers in the UK then we have been successful.

I would like to thank everyone who attended plus everyone who helped raise money throughout the year.

I would like to thank everyone who donated a raffle prize or food for the night as without it we would not be able to raise what we do. A special thanks to Gary MM0FZV for doing the "Door" task, to Caroline and her daughter Alex for dealing with the selling and sorting of the raffle tickets and lastly to Janet (Gary's XYL), Kirsty MM3ZVY (Gary's Daughter) and Yvonne my XYL for doing the catering. Again many thanks.
